- ProLiteracy Connections has resources for tutors, including:
- Online Courses
- Lesson Plans and Activities
- Techniques and Strategies which are good for all tutors
Whether you have little or much experience, you’ll find lessons for yourself and for your students. You will need to create an account, but everything is free for your growth as a tutor. You can earn certificates as you complete any of the 36 online courses. One of these courses, “Learning to Use Laubach Way to Reading, Laubach Way to English, and Focus on Phonics” covers the curriculum the Temple Literacy Council uses as our preferred method of teaching our literacy students.
There are several lessons via podcasts. You can also watch videos of tutors teaching their students. There is a section about using technology where you can learn things such as; how to add media files to Power Points, create free e-mail accounts with (for) your students, and there are a few ESL resources as well.
- Another resource which the Temple Literacy Council offers its tutors is the use of Ipads. They are available for trained tutors to check out during the tutoring sessions, (at specific times). They must be used in the Temple Public Library environment. There are several applications (apps) loaded on the Ipads to enhance and enrich your tutoring sessions ranging from simple phonics lessons to math training. Contact the TLC office staff to assist you with training, and check out procedures and new ideas.
